Day 11

Mornings are somehow more brutal in a comfortable bed. The day was unfurling beautifully and the road was calling. There was grandma's homemade granola for breakfast and we were packed before long. Since Bailey's tagging along, we enjoyed another semi-supported day. We rode together in the morning over the Florence bridge and stopped several time- throughout the morning to peek at the dunes forming and shifting alongside the road, some threatening to overtake it. The route was straight down the 101 all the way to Coos Bay, which was our goal for the day. Feeling rested from the day before and with slightly lighter loads, we tore it up and did 50 miles in just over 6 hours, with 2 long breaks. We even had a tailwind in the afternoon.

The bridge into North Bend/Coos bay was exciting, as they were repainting it and the sandblasters were making a terrible racket. I think I git a spot of blue paint on my tire briefly...

Shoutout to Moe's bike shop in North Bend for helpng us tighten some loose cogs on a cassette and true a wheel in jiffy. Also, check out that 14 ft unicycle.

A little further on from North Bend we found camp at a state park by Sunset bay, where we enjoyed peeking at the tide pools, eroding rocks, and discovering why they call it sunset bay. The bay forms a near-perfect amphitheater with the ocean as its stage, where the sun performed its monologue. Incredible. So good I had to give it a hug.

Just look at this sandstone!!

Other excitements included this extra large banana slug.

Dinner was orzo and fresh vegetables from the farmer's stand in Florence. We even had a little fire, and ended the day with a song or two.
